Arno Lustiger Collection
Arno Lustiger (1924-2012) was born in Bȩdzin, Poland, on May 7, 1924. With the German occupation of Poland and the detention of the Jewish population in 1943, Lustiger entered an odyssey through several concentration camps. During the Death March in 1945, he was able to escape and was rescued by American troops.
After the end of the war, Arno Lustiger settled in Germany and became a textile manufacturer. He was a co-founder of the Jewish Congregation of Frankfurt am Main. Forty years after the end of the War, he began to publish on the Jewish resistance, on Jews in the Soviet Union and on the Spanish Civil War. His involvement as a critical voice in society earned him many honors and awards. He died in Frankfurt am Main on May 15, 2012.
His 700-volume donation to the Moses Mendelssohn Center includes literature on his journalistic topics.
